Mock Fire Drill Conducted in The Kanoo Group Head Office

Dubai: November 27, 2012 - In a bid to raise awareness about disaster control management plan, Kanoo Group HSE & Property team along with Dubai Civil Defense and Dubai Police rescue team conducted a mock fire drill and evacuation exercise at Kanoo Group Head office, Bur Dubai on Nov 26, 2012.

The exercise was aimed at checking and evaluating emergency plans, preparedness of control and command, coordination between various concerned parties, field operations, quality of communication between the participating teams and the exact arrival time of rescue.

The fire alarm rang at 10.01am wherein The Kanoo Group security and fire marshals were immediately pressed into service. They quickly informed the appropriate authorities and successfully evacuated all employees before 10.06 am in the ground assembly point. The Dubai Civil Defense team arrived at the spot at 10.11am followed by Dubai Police and ambulance rescue team at 10.12am.

They all carried out set of priorities in dealing with such emergency situation. The Dubai Civil Defense was responsible for the safety of people and properties. Dubai Police was responsible for control of the public and participation in the search and rescue operations. The ambulance department was responsible for first aid and transfer of injured people.

The drill lasted for more than half an hour. It was a reflection of the capabilities of all the teams in any event of fire. Subsequently, a meeting was convened by participants to evaluate and analyze feedback and to develop further procedures.

Sekar Balaji, QHSE Manager said, "Fire drills are more than fires. Knowing the evacuation routes of a building will help in the event of power outage, gas leak, or other emergency situations as well that can occur in the office. Fire drills ensure that employees exit the building in a timely fashion and know their team's designated meeting area which helps in the rescue effort".

He added, "Knowing what to do in the event of a fire is crucial. Planning proper escape route and conducting regular fire drills will give the knowledge and confidence to employees to escape a fire safely in office environment."
