The Kanoo Group celebrates Ramadan and its traditions with delightful Iftar

In one of the most important periods in the Islamic calendar, the Holy Month of Ramadan is characterised by prayer, reflection and fasting. As a century-old tradition of sharing Iftar, The Kanoo Group once again organised this year's celebration for its staff members and their families which was held on 19th June 2016 at JW Marriott Hotel Dubai.

Mr. Mishal Kanoo, Chairman of The Kanoo Group graced the occasion and addressed the opening message in the presence of Mr. Bob Curtis, CEO of The Kanoo Group, Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Executive Director - UAE of The Kanoo Group, other department managers, unit heads and staff, as well as their families.

In his opening speech, he congratulated those who have attended the event on the occasion of holy month of Ramadan which invokes traditions that are in line with the religious customs of the region, and emphasized that organizing such events or meetings is aimed at enhancing good relationships among staff members on all managerial levels, disseminating sense of cooperation and fraternity amongst the Company employees.

The 2016 corporate Iftar gathering of The Kanoo Group also provided the ideal setting amongst their families and groups to preserve the tradition while enjoying their time together in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

As a major part of the program before the Iftar gathering, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al Kobaisi, Grand Mufti, Islamic Affairs Department, addressed the crowd with an interesting insight about "Introduction to Ramadan". He discussed topics pertaining to the concept of accurate timing of fasting or Salah (Muslim prayer) linked to the sightings of the moon.

For the most part, he emphasized about the real essence of fasting which is way beyond abstaining from eating, drinking and intimate relations – but from lying, bad morals and behaviors. He said, "Fasting is supposed to make you a better person for yourself and the people around you. It has to train you for controlling your whims/desires and basic needs, with a strength, willpower and determination to do it, or to change. Fasting is a balance between the body and soul". He also added that Ramadan is a time of charity.
